It’s incredibly versatile, affordable, customizable and easy to clean and maintain. Rock-solid and just as hard as granite or slate, concrete is generally a better fit in contemporary kitchens than natural stone. Before you take the plunge and overhaul your kitchen countertop, you may want to consider the pros and cons first.
Advantages

They’re durable, long-lasting and difficult to scratch or damage. Concrete is available in any color, with the added bonus of incorporating glass fragments, stone, shell—and even fiber-optic lights! Because it is also considered to be a premium upgraded material, concrete can also provide a good return on investment if you plan to sale the home in the next few years.
Disadvantages
- The biggest drawback is the price point. Concrete countertops are generally pretty pricey, averaging around $150 per square foot. They also tend be significantly heavier than other countertops, which may require additional adjustment to the surrounding cabinets and floor. Also, if you don’t want to have to think about routine maintenance, keep in mind that concrete does need to be resealed at least once a year.
